I would not be a state senator in Vermont if it were not for my coach, Laura Coyle. I truly believe this. The decision to run—was a decision that was facilitated by Coyle. I say “facilitated” because she eased and enabled that tough decision by constantly reminding me of my personal values and why running for political office was an integral part of who I want to be in the world. Laura is a gifted coach. She is the right combination of humor and candor, and she possesses a deep understanding of just how difficult—but how vital—it is to live authentically.
I’ve known since I was a teenager that I wanted to run for higher office, but my career and kids sidetracked me along the way. I also had serious doubts that an out lesbian could be elected to statewide office. Simply put, Laura’s coaching reminded me—brought me back—to my true self. She asked the right questions at the right time and assisted me in constantly reflecting back on my authentic self. We all know women need a special grit and sense of self to run for public office; Laura builds up a woman candidate by frankly and lovingly mirroring back what she hears and sees. She acknowledges psychological and emotional barriers, and she helps a candidate to tame those inner saboteurs that may prevent her from running. She also recognizes and honors the talents and fire that each woman has within them.
Another of Laura’s gifts is that she straightforwardly holds my feet to the fire and helps me fight for what is crucially important to me. When I first hired her, another client referred to her as “a pit bull” that works in the service of your best self. I think she captured her feisty energy and tenacity with that analogy, but Laura is not just a terrific ball of energy. She is highly intuitive and absolutely understands that women candidates need meaningful and apt prompts to remind them of why they want to take on such a crazy, intense project in the first place. Win or lose, I knew I would be proud of the campaign that I ran. Laura’s coaching ensured that I would strive to be absolutely authentic while employing all the critical nuts and bolts needed to run a great campaign. But I did win—and upset a favored “white old boy” in the race. Voters crave something different. Laura Coyle excellent coaching can be that critical difference.
Vermont State Senator majority leader
Working with Laura has had a truly profound impact on my life. I now have a better understanding of myself, my actions, my motivations, and the personal issues that hinder me. She has opened me up to a new way of looking at myself, at others, and at life in general.
Laura has an effortless way of doing this...I often feel like I have just had a nice long chat with an old friend, yet in the hours and days that follow our sessions, my mind becomes clearer, her words repeat in my head, and I feel empowered. Simply put, Laura is a gifted guide...she lets you choose your path, but shows you how to stay on course.
She is exuberant, supportive, kind, and compassionate.

I began working with Laura Coyle almost 11 years ago and she has had a fabulous impact on my life. Her work with me as a coach is very structured, yet also flexible when necessary. She has been invaluable in helping me to focus my energy and efforts toward reaching various goals of mine, both personal and professional. Laura’s energy is infectious; her positive attitude inspiring. Her ability to navigate a position of holding me accountable, while remaining may champion is truly a gift.
I have referred several people to Laura in the time I’ve been working with her and each has had a similar experience to mine. The changes I’ve manifested in myself and what I’ve been able to achieve are pronounced. I am excited to continue my work with her.

Working with Laura feels like magic. We massage open locked brain synapses, we reshape perspectives from prison to playground, we respectfully converse with then dismiss negative ghouls, we stretch our imaginations wide open to further my reach into a perfect life, and I love it!
Laura has allowed me to become my own guide. Through her perceptive, challenging yet gentle direction she teaches me to listen to my own wisdom; she challenges me to know and to trust myself. With humor, love, patience and discipline Laura has passed invaluable tools to me. Guided meditations, kinetic perspective exercises and bold task setting, are just a few of the ways in which Laura continues to deepen the journey from unconscious incompetence, through conscious incompetence, to conscious competence and finally to unconscious competence.
I entered into the coaching process not really knowing what to expect, except perhaps to be held accountable to some goals. It has proven to be so much more than that. Yes, I can list a series of goals I’ve accomplished through the work we’ve done together, but so much more significant are the internal shifts in perspective which led to those accomplishments and which will lead to so many more. I began with a negative accounting of what was missing in my life; what I was not doing / getting / being. I currently live in blissful gratitude for all I have / do / get / am, and in the excitement of discovering what each new horizon will present. Productivity has increased, yes, but even more excitingly, there is a softening of judgment and therefore more creative freedom to shape my own ship to sail wherever I please. Adding life coaching to my world has woven life balance practice into my daily routine in as disciplined a way as working out or eating well. Working with Laura specifically has made this priority joyful, fluid, fascinating, expansive and just fun!
I cannot recommend Laura enough. For anyone committed to living to the fullest during their stay on this planet, you can count on Laura to stretch you fuller than you’d ever thought possible. Laura doesn’t just give you a fish – she teaches you how to fish!

I can’t recommend Laura highly enough. Before working with her, I’d been in conventional therapy for five years, and was ready for a change. Like most people, I had (and still have!) unrealized dreams for the future--in my career, with creative projects--and only a vague sense of how to approach them, or whether I even deserved them. At the time, I felt that my aspirations were unattainable, impractical, and impossible. My work with Laura helped me break my goals into small, attainable, and enjoyable pieces, so that, week by week, my life became focused more on long-term goals and less on short-term distractions.
I became a believer in Laura when, within six months of our collaboration, I received a promotion, published an article in a high-profile magazine, increased my client base by 15%, and found new venues and mediums for my creative endeavors. Now, three years on, having published three books and dozens more articles, I make much of my living as a writer. I have become more and more honed in on what I have to say creatively. My interpersonal relationships have improved. I’m excited about the new horizons I’ll glimpse and the new goals I’ll set and, eventually, attain. And best of all, I feel I am living more deliberately, with a clearer sense of what my next steps are and how to take them.
I can say with confidence that I would not have done any of these things without my work with Laura. Possessed of a terrific sense of humor and a remarkable insight into exactly what obstacle—internal or external—is holding me back, Laura always seems to know the right thing to say and do to nudge me in the right direction. I’m still a work in progress—Laura never lets me off the hook—but with Laura helping me, I’m always excited about where I’ll be able to go next.

Laura has been my champion as my business coach and I mean that literally. She is excited for me and is on fire that my dream and my passion for world peace be fulfilled through my business. Her excitement, and dare I say, her love for me, is palpable, real and strong and zings to me over the telephone wires from Connecticut to Seattle! I am inspired when I get off the phone and get right into action with whatever we have agreed upon. There have been rocky points in our relationship but we have always worked them through. I am amazed at the ground we have taken in the short time we have worked together. Her enthusiasm and her energy for her clients is incredible.
As a 72-year-old woman, recently widowed, and adapting to urban condo living, Laura Coyle challenges me to design a new life, to erase old tapes, to become acquainted with my “Future Self.” I could never have predicted six months ago how I am venturing out of my comfort zone to explore and discover my true self. There is a little prayer I like to start my day with:
May I have the courage today
To live the life that I would love
To postpone my dream no longer
But do at last what I came here for
And waste my heart on fear no more.
My phone sessions with Laura give me the tools to make this prayer come to being. This next chapter in my life promises to be the most exciting one!
